Frequently Asked Questions
What is VAT and who needs to pay it?
VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption tax levied on goods and services. Cross-border sellers selling to EU/UK customers must register for VAT in each country once they exceed the distance selling threshold.
How do I calculate VAT from a gross price?
To find the net price from a gross (VAT-inclusive) price: Net = Gross ÷ (1 + VAT rate). For example, £120 including 20% UK VAT: Net = 120 ÷ 1.20 = £100. VAT = £20.
What is the UK VAT rate?
The standard UK VAT rate is 20% (as of 2025). There is also a reduced rate of 5% for certain goods and a zero rate (0%) for books, children's clothing, and most food.
