What Is a Multi-Platform Profit Calculator?

A multi-platform profit calculator runs a single product scenario through the fee rules of several sales channels at once. Instead of looking up commission rates and redoing the same math for each marketplace, you enter your numbers once and compare the results side by side.

Each platform card shows the referral or transaction commission, any fixed per-order fee, the payment processing fee and the total of those charges. It then subtracts your costs to show net profit and margin, so you can see which channel would keep the most money from the same sale. The cards are ranked from highest to lowest net profit, with the leading result marked as best.

How the Platform Profit Calculation Works

The calculator applies the same formula to every platform, using the rates stored in its built-in fee table:

  • Commission = selling price multiplied by the category rate
  • Fixed fee = the platform’s per-order fixed fee
  • Payment fee = selling price multiplied by the payment processing rate, plus the fixed payment amount
  • Total fees = commission + fixed fee + payment fee
  • Net profit = selling price − product cost − shipping − total fees
  • Margin = net profit divided by selling price, multiplied by 100

The category selector sets one commission rate for the whole comparison: 15% for Standard, Books and Home & Garden, 8% for Electronics, 17% for Apparel and 20% for Jewelry. Monthly subscriptions — such as Shopify’s plan or Amazon’s Professional plan — and FBA fulfillment fees are not included in the per-item figures.

How to Use the Multi-Platform Profit Calculator

  1. Enter the selling price.
  2. Enter your product cost — what you pay to source or make the item.
  3. Optionally enter a shipping cost if you pay to send the order.
  4. Select the product category that matches your item.
  5. Use the region filter to compare all platforms or only those in one region.
  6. Review the ranked cards, each showing total fees, net profit and margin.
  7. Compare the top results and verify current rates in each platform’s seller documentation.

Multi-Platform Profit Calculation Example

Suppose you sell an item for $50, with a product cost of $15, $5 shipping and the Standard category selected. On Etsy the calculator works out:

Selling price$50.00
Commission (15%)$7.50
Fixed fee$0.20
Payment fee (3% + $0.25)$1.75
Total fees$9.45
Product cost and shipping$20.00
Net profit$20.55
Margin41.1%

The category rate applies to every platform in the comparison, so Etsy is charged the 15% Standard rate here. This is an illustration using the tool’s built-in rates — enter your own product for a tailored estimate.

الأسئلة الشائعة

What is a multi-platform profit calculator?

It runs one product scenario — selling price, product cost and optional shipping — through the fee rules of 33 ecommerce platforms at once. Each platform card shows the commission, fixed fee, payment processing fee, total fees, net profit and margin, and the results are ranked from most to least profitable.

How is net profit calculated for each platform?

Commission is the selling price multiplied by the selected product category rate. The platform’s fixed per-order fee is added, along with its payment processing fee — the selling price times the payment rate, plus any fixed amount. Total fees are those three components, and net profit is the selling price minus product cost, shipping and total fees. Margin is net profit divided by selling price.

Which costs are not included in the per-item results?

Monthly subscriptions are excluded — for example Shopify’s $29 plan, Amazon’s $39.99 Professional plan and Otto’s partner fee of around €99.90. Amazon FBA fulfillment fees are also excluded, because the calculator only models commission, fixed and payment processing fees per order.

Why does selecting a product category change the commission?

The category selector applies one commission rate to every platform in the comparison: 15% for Standard, Books and Home & Garden, 8% for Electronics, 17% for Apparel and 20% for Jewelry. Marketplaces charge different commission rates by category, so picking the matching category keeps the comparison consistent.

How should I compare profit across platforms?

Enter the same selling price, product cost, shipping and category for every platform, then compare the ranked net profit figures. Use the region filter to focus on relevant markets, and treat the results as estimates — verify the final figures against each platform’s current seller documentation.
