What Is a Unit Converter?

A unit converter translates a value from one measurement unit to another within the same category — for example, kilograms to pounds or inches to centimetres. Cross-border sellers use it when a marketplace, shipping label or customs form requires a unit different from the one on the product packaging.

Supported Categories and Units

The tool supports four categories:

  • Length: centimetre, millimetre, metre, inch, foot, yard
  • Weight: gram, kilogram, milligram, ounce, pound
  • Temperature: Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin
  • Volume: millilitre, litre, fluid ounce, US gallon, US cup

How Unit Conversion Works

For length, weight and volume, each unit has a conversion factor to a shared base unit. The converter multiplies the input by the source factor and divides by the target factor, so the calculation is a single multiplication and division.

Temperature has its own formulas. Celsius to Fahrenheit is C multiplied by 9/5 plus 32. Celsius to Kelvin is C plus 273.15. The converter first converts the source unit to Celsius, then from Celsius to the target unit.

How to Use the Unit Converter

  1. Click the category button for the type of conversion.
  2. Enter the value in the From field.
  3. Select the source unit from the dropdown next to the input.
  4. Select the target unit from the To dropdown.
  5. Read the result and the quick reference table showing the value in every other unit in the category.

Unit Conversion Example

Converting 1 kilogram to pounds: the base unit is grams, so 1 kilogram becomes 1000 grams. Dividing by the pound factor of 453.592 gives 2.2046 pounds.

Base value1000 g

الأسئلة الشائعة

Why do I need a unit converter for ecommerce?

Different markets use different measurement systems. The United States uses imperial units (pounds, inches) while most other countries use metric (kilograms, centimetres). Product listings, shipping labels and customs documents often require specific units, so a converter helps you switch between them quickly.

Which categories does this converter support?

The tool supports four categories: length (centimetre, millimetre, metre, inch, foot, yard), weight (gram, kilogram, milligram, ounce, pound), temperature (Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin) and volume (millilitre, litre, fluid ounce, US gallon, US cup).

How does the conversion work?

For length, weight and volume, each unit has a conversion factor to a shared base unit. The converter multiplies the input by the source factor and divides by the target factor. Temperature uses its own formulas: Celsius to Fahrenheit is C × 9/5 + 32, and Celsius to Kelvin is C + 273.15.

How many centimetres are in an inch?

One inch equals 2.54 centimetres. This is an exact international standard definition, so the converter uses it as the base factor for all length conversions between imperial and metric units.
